‘There’s no time to feel sorry for yourself in football’

We’re not quite achieving our goals right now, but that time will come

Kirstie Levell reckons an upturn in form is just around the corner ahead of Leicester City’s clash against defending Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea on Sunday, writes Oscar Maung-Haley, of Sportsbeat.

The Foxes have yet to taste victory so far this season, losing their opening four WSL matches and scoring just two goals in the process.

Their most recent defeat – a 2-0 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur - saw Levell, 24, pull off a string of impressive saves to keep the hosts in the contest.

And while they were unable to convert their chances at the other end of the pitch, Levell believes brighter times are on the horizon after a slow start to the season.

After Sunday’s defeat at the King Power Stadium, the former Everton ace said: “I think you can always take positives from any type of game.

“We’ve had a hard week – we have had three games and played three very tough opponents. We’ve got Chelsea coming up next, so there’s no easy way forward.

“But I think once the Chelsea game is done with, whatever we can take from that, then we’re going to regroup. We’ve got three weeks off with no game and then we’ll look to try and fix what we can.

“We are all positive in training and I think we’ve created a really good team environment, so it’s all about pushing on from there. Going forward, hopefully we can get the wins.”

Chelsea and Leicester sit at the opposite ends of the league heading into this weekend’s contest – with

Emma Hayes’ side third and the Foxes languishing in 10th.

Only Birmingham City and Reading, both of whom are also yet to toast a WSL win, stand between Leicester and the bottom of the table.

In the midweek Champions League action, Chelsea managed to overturn a 3-1 deficit against Wolfsburg to draw 3-3 thanks to a stoppage-time leveller from Pernille Harder.

And while Levell knows Chelsea will pose a tough test, she acknowlSHOT-STOPPER edges that Leicester must remain focused on achieving their goals and not feel sorry for themselves.

She added: “We’re not quite achieving our goals right now, but that time will come.

“One thing we spoke about at training was that we can’t be feeling sorry for ourselves – there’s no time for it in football.”
