Break may be a boost for faltering Foxes, says Tielemans

-

MIDFIELDER Youri Tielemans has said the international break may help Leicester City amid their faltering Premier League form, writes Amie Wilson.

City are without a win in four league matches, having last picked up three points in the 2-1 win over Norwich City back in August - it is the longest winless run since Brendan Rodgers took over as manager in February 2019.

Tielemans has again been a key player this campaign, playing every minute in the Premier League, as well as featuring in every Europa League, Carabao Cup and Community Shield games.

The midfielder has scored one goal and provided two assists so far, but, like the rest of the team, has not yet hit the heights of this time last year.

The 24-year-old was last night with the Belgian national team as they took on France in the second Nations League semi-finals.

Ahead of the game, Tielemans, who has recently been linked with Atletico Madrid, has outlined the key to getting back on track.

“I haven’t been thinking too much about it,” he said. “I can only work, on and off the field and try to help the team as much as possible and then I know that the performances will follow.

“It’s true that we have a difficult start to the season at Leicester. Perhaps this interruption will help with that and I can return to England afterwards with a fresh head.”

The game before the international break saw City give up a 2-0 half time lead against Crystal Palace in a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park. Secondhalf goals from Michael Olise and Jeffrey Schlupp cancelled out strikes by Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy.

City have eight points from their opening seven games, leaving them in 13th position in the Premier League table and six points adrift of the top four places.
