CITY FIRM COMES UP WITH PARLIAMENTARY PULLOVER

A FAMILY-run Leicester textiles firm has joined forces with the Houses of Parliament for the third year running to create the official Christmas jumper.

Jack Masters, based in Aylestone, have used their decades of experience in the industry and passion for sustainability to come up with the design for the ecofriendly festive knitwear, which is being sold in the Houses of Parliament shop.

The jumper draws upon the colour palette of the UK Parliament, so will be able to be worn across all political parties, and also has plenty of eco credentials too.

It is made out of 100 per cent recyclable materials - something the firm’s managing director, Snahal Patel, was keen to push for.

“The sustainability message is very important to our customers and their consumers,” said Snahal.

“Over the past year we have seen a shift away from manmade fibres, and 100 per cent increase in the amount of recycled Christmas jumpers that we have produced.”

Made up of 60 per cent recycled pre-consumer cotton and 40 per cent recycled post-consumer polyester, each jumper contains material from 24 plastic bottles, meaning the sustainable parliamentary pullover is more than just a winter warmer.

The jumper is the third such design the family firm has made in conjunction with UK Parliament, first producing a House of Commons themed design in 2019.

Their second, which was made last year, featured the House of Lords red in the design and sold out in quick time.

Hopes are now high for this year’s design, which was created with Jack Masters’ state of the art technology and features the iconic parliament portcullis and crown as well as “Big Ben” from the Elizabeth Tower.

Snahal said he was proud that the family firm, which was set up by his parents Dilip and Illa in 1987, was again selected to work on the project.

“We are proud that UK Parliament has chosen to work with us on this iconic design,” he said.
