We’re glancing in the aisles of new-look store

- By NICK DAWSON nicholas.dawson@reachplc.com

WHENEVER a supermarket decides to change things up, shoppers are often left wandering around the aisles trying to work out where their favourite items have moved to.

And that has been the potential problem facing customers at Morrisons, in Hinckley, which has had a major refit.

The revamped store, off the A47 perimeter road, has a completely new look, so we decided to see exactly what has changed.

On arrival, the first obvious change is the addition of a small garden centre hear the entrance, selling a variety of plants, pots and bags of compost.

Obviously, Morrisons knows its customers better than we do, and so must have a good reason for installing the new green space, although its addition did leave us wondering just how many people do choose to pick up fresh botanical supplies while they’re doing their big shop.

The next big change we noticed was the deli counter, which is bigger than before with an inviting pick and mix mini spicy snacks counter and huge piles of cheese, while new displays have been put in for the hot food counter.

We also went out to check the fridges and freezers. They are all fully working, so we’re going to count that as an upgrade on the oold ones, which would often stop working or leak.

Shoppers can also have a nibble and a natter in the newlook cafe, which has fetching wooden embellishments and includes a “brew bar” where staff make the hot drinks. A number of customers said it is very easy to use and as ever, Morrisons’ signature hot breakfasts were proving to be a particularly popular choice among the diners.

However, after noticing that plastic screens had been put in place between the tables in the seating area - a notable requisite of the post-pandemic world - we didn’t stop for long and decided to check out how shoppers were coping with the new aisles.

The most obvious change, to us anyway, was that the two alcohol aisles have been moved. Usually supermarkets seem to place the shelves containing booze furthest away from the door, but Hinckley’s Morrisons now has them placed right near the entrance - perfect for those who just want to grab a few beers or bottles at the end of a long week and go. Near to the alcohol aisles, a party section has also been added selling greetings cards, and paper plates and candles, which is bound to come in handy, while the bread and cakes aisle is now much wider and less cramped and the Nutmeg clothes section has also been expanded, with a larger men’s and women’s section.

Morrisons Hinckley is open Monday to Saturday, 6am to 10pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
