So glad for return of cricket society meets

-

AFTER an absence of more than 18 months for obvious reasons, it was great to be able to return to the Leicestershire CCC cricket society which meets monthly in the Charles Palmer suite, at Grace Road, during the winter months.

Former Essex and England medium pace bowler Derek Pringle was the guest speaker, who did a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable talk, taking us through his career which bought back many childhood cricketing memories, watching him play for England on TV during the 80s and early 90s, followed by a question and answer session.

Sadly, some of the number of the group are no longer with us from when we last met, pre-Covid early in 2020, so we all stood to remember them before the speech got under way.

The next meeting is on Thursday, November 11, when a certain Paul Nixon will be the guest speaker.

For £20 you can take out an annual membership which admits you to all the meetings which are staged between October and March, or pay £5 on arrival to attend any individual meeting.

Each meeting is complete with the bar open, a raffle and a well stocked second-hand book stall.

It is always an enjoyable event which certainly helps cricket fans through those long winter months.

Like when I was able to return to attending matches last May, I certainly realised how much I had missed this event during Covid.
