AN extravagant Hallowe’en display outside a home was so spooky police were called in.

Jo Flower, 37, and her husband Rob, 48 regularly transform the front of their house in Rothley to mark events such as Christmas, Easter and Hallowe’en.

Theye said they have never had any problems in the past, but were visited by police after they set up this year’s Hallowe’en display, and were asked to “tone it down”.

The display lights up at night, transforming the front into the entrance to a haunted house, complete with blow-up ghosts, vampires and planks across the windows.

Jo said: “We do it every year, apart from last year, and we never have any problems.

“We’ve had amazing feedback this year. Kids come to visit to get sweets and nurseries have come along to take pictures.

“We’ve got nephews and nieces who love it, too.”

Jo and Rob were not at home the first time police paid a visit to the haunted house, but a few days later, when Rob was outside adding more props, officers turned up again.

“Officers said they were given an anonymous tip-off and asked us to take it down, but it’s in our own front garden,” Jo said.

“I don’t know why it would be a problem but police did say that one of the headless mannequins could cause offence.”

The Hallowe’en display has been part of a long-standing, family tradition, but this year, Jo and Rob decided to raise money for Cancer Research alongside it. Earlier this year, Jo was told she had precancerous cells in her uterus and, two weeks ago, had an operation.

The motherof-two said despite the recent surgery she was “keeping well” and was given the “all-clear” on Friday.

Her mum had died after being diagnosed with cancer in 2018. “We decided this year we would raise money for Cancer Research and raise some awareness,” Jo said. A fund-raising page has raised more than £230.
