Rain brings floods and driving danger

STORMY weather caused problems for motorists and half-marathon runners yesterday.

Heavy rain fell across the county throughout the morning.

Flood warning were issued and many roads were in a treacherou­s condition.

The Roads Policing Unit warned of poor conditions after dealing with a crash on the M1.

Leicester Area Traffic control reported flash flooding on the A50, Groby Road and Blackbird Road.

The Watermead Way junction with Melton Road and Troon Way also experience­d flooding.

In the county, the B582, Little Glen Road in Glen Parva was flooded.

Six Hills Lane under the A46 bridge which is notorious for flooding was impassable and motorists were asked to find alternativ­e routes.

The Environmen­t Agency issued a flood alert for Loughborou­gh urban watercours­es including Black

Brook, Wood Brook, Burleigh Brook, Grace Dieu Brook and Hermitage Brook.

With more rain forecast, river levels were expected to remain high.

The fire service reminded drivers to stay safe on the roads by avoiding driving through flooded areas.

Windy weather led to blocked carriagewa­ys and debris on the roads.
