Appeal for witnesses as man is punched by youths

A MAN was punched and had his bike taken during a confrontat­ion with a group of youths near Leicester’s Clock Tower.

Police have just released details of the incident as they appeal for help tracking down those responsibl­e.

It happened two weekends ago in a busy area of the city centre.

No arrests have been made and police believe some witnesses may have recorded the assault and theft on their phones.

They are appealing for informatio­n from anyone who can help.

The force said in a statement: “Officers are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed and assaulted in a city centre street.

“The 31-year-old victim was involved in a disagreeme­nt with a group of youths in East Gates at about 8pm on Saturday, October 16. The suspects then punched the victim before stealing his bike.

“From inquiries conducted so far it’s believed there were a number of people in the area at the time and some may have recorded the incident on their phones.

“Also, two women helped the victim following the incident and officers would like to identify and trace them.

“Anyone who has any informatio­n about the incident or footage of what happened is asked to contact Pc Neil Rawlings on 101, quoting crime number 21*603162.”
