Frustration at repeated fly-tipping near school
PARENTS say they are are growing increasingly frustrated at fly-tippers who persistently dump rubbish outside their children’s school.
One parent, whose three children attend the Imam Muhammad Adam Institute in Spinney Hills, Leicester, said piles of rubbish, unwanted mattresses and bin bags are repeatedly left outside the entrance of the primary school.
The 36-year-old who chose not to be named said the narrow street is often busy during school drop-off and pickup times and is regularly left looking a state by fly-tippers.
“It’s not nice for the kids and it makes me really sad and upset,” he said.
The father-of-three became so concerned the mess was becoming a health hazard he paid to have the waste removed at his own expense.
But within one week, he said more rubbish had appeared in the same spot, as well as what appeared to be tobacco spat outside the school entrance.
The city council said any reported fly-tipping is cleared away, usually within a few days. “I can get it removed again but that’s not really a solution,” the dad said.
“It looks like people might be doing it on purpose because it seems to be the only place on the street where the rubbish is being dumped and now people are spitting there, too.”
A city council spokesman said: “Our street cleaning teams regularly visit this location to clear away fly-tipping that has been reported to us.
“This is usually within a few days, though it is done quicker if the dumped material is hazardous in any way.
“Recently, following a patch walk of the area with ward councillors, our city wardens delivered leaflets and information to several neighbouring streets, explaining the waste disposal services available to residents, including the council’s bulk collection service, and how to identify and report fly-tipping.
“We will monitor the site closely and any further flytipping incidents will be investigated and removed.
“We also check to try to establish who has dumped the waste, which if successful will lead to fines and prosecution.”
