Police in witness appeal as man dies in hospital
A MAN who was taken to hospital in a critical condition with serious injuries after a crash on the A42 has died, police have confirmed.
The incident took place on October 31 shortly after 7pm when a car collided with a lorry between Junctions 11 and 12, near Measham and south of Ashby.
Police have confirmed that the lorry was stationary at the time of the crash, parked in a bay at the side of the road.
The car is believed to have crossed two lanes after the collision before coming to a stop near the central reservation.
It is thought the car ended up on its roof, but police have not confirmed that detail.
The man driving the car – a blue Peugeot 108 – was taken to University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire, where he died the following evening, police confirmed yesterday.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service crews attended alongside police officers.
Fire teams from Ashby and Burton were deployed, while a Technical Rescue Team from the fire service’s Southern Station was also dispatched.
Forensic officers were spotted carrying out investigations at the scene yesterday following the man’s death.
Officers looking into the incident would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles beforehand.
Anyone who was travelling along the A42 on Sunday, October 31 who has a dashcam is also asked to check their footage for anything that could help the force’s enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable 4695 Louise McMahon on 101, quoting incident 634 of October 31.
