Suspects run, but police are quicker

-

TWO men were arrested on suspicion of committing a street robbery in Loughborough after police chased the occupants of a car that had failed to stop.

Police said “officer instinct” kicked in when the driver of a black Astra hatchback was “driven off at speed” when indicated to pull over by a patrol car in Ashby Road, near to Loughborough University.

The car was followed as it made its way towards the town centre.

The force said its officers thought the vehicle, due to the driver’s behaviour, could be linked to a recent report of a man being attacked in the town and his wallet stolen.

Officers caught up with the car in Barnsdale Close, off the A6 Derby Road, where two men were seen to flee the vehicle on foot.

A chase ensued and the suspects were caught and arrested.

The incident happened at about 2.45pm on Tuesday, November 2.

Police confirmed that a 33-year-old man, of Loughborough, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and failing to stop.

The second man, aged 30 and also from the town, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and failing a roadside breath test.

Inspector Matt Oswin, of Charnwood Police, congratulated the Roads Policing Unit officers for their quick thinking.

He said: “A fail to stop certainly caught your interest. Good job guys. Always welcome across the borough.”

A police spokeswoman said: “The victim suffered minor injuries in the incident.”

The spokeswoman said an investigation by detectives from Loughborough CID is continuing.

Both of the arrested men have been released under investigation.
