THE team at a Leicester events, brand and PR firm has been in Scotland to support the government in delivering some of its COP26 programme.

Associate Events is the Department of Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)’s official event partner, delivering exhibitions, conferences and awards celebrations at the global conference in Glasgow.

The Defra plans have taken months of negotiation and preparations, all the time having to work around the pandemic.

Defra is one of almost a dozen teams at COP26 which Associate Events has provided services to.

The business, which is based in Friars Mill, Leicester, works on projects including Leicester Business Festival and helps organise the annual Team Leicester delegation to the Mipim property conference in Cannes.

Managing director Alister de Ternant said despite the pandemic the business had continued to expand its work across the UK, with new clients in sectors ranging from sustainable technology and property and construction to learning and development and leisure.

He said: “COP26 is a critical part of the conversation and race against climate change.

“We are extremely proud and fortunate to be working with Defra on this global event, supporting and advising it on all the challenges that come with it.

“Associate Events has also been engaged by nine other private companies to provide their events, stands and exhibitions here at COP26, while also delivering a range of content for conference.

“I am exceptionally proud of our team and the impact we are making in Glasgow. Although the pandemic has dramatically affected the wider hospitality and events industries, our breadth and diversity of service and our methods of working in partnership with our clients have allowed us to expand our portfolio and retain and grow our workforce.”

Mattie Yeta, head of sustainability for Defra, said: “COP26 is an event that represents a global change in our approach to life on our planet.

“Defra have been tasked with ensuring the environment, nature and technology are part of this conversation and collectively agree a way forward with the world.

“Over the past months we have been lucky and privileged to be working with our official events partner Associate Events, without which this simply would not have been possible.”
