PLAYER RATINGS

-

KASPER SCHMEICHEL: His quietest night of the season, but still didn’t keep a clean sheet. His defence let him down as it parted to allow Moses a free header, but he had no saves to make beyond that. 6/10

DANIEL AMARTEY: Competent at the back, he defended calmly to cut out Spartak’s counters. Thumped in first goal of the season from a corner thanks to a timely run. 7/10

JONNY EVANS: The quality of his passing was excellent, the centre-back spraying balls left and right, over the top and through the lines. Defensively, he was untroubled, with his team-mates doing the difficult stuff. 7/10

CAGLAR SOYUNCU: Confident on the ball, he surged forward down the line with Maguire-esque runs in the first half. He was decent defensively on the whole too, if a little easy to dribble past at times. 6/10

TIMOTHY CASTAGNE: Made countless runs in behind the defence to try to upset a solid Spartak rearguard, but was very rarely found. He provided one fine cross for Dewsbury-Hall’s big chance. 6/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: A lot of his forward balls were cut out easily. But he still provided far more incisive balls than any other player and was involved in nearly every threatening forward move. 6/10

BOUBAKARY SOUMARE: He still moves the ball too slowly and too conservatively at times, but he is press-resistant and keeps it very well. His tracking was much better, yet he could not keep up with Moses for the goal. 6/10

RYAN BERTRAND: He got forward a lot but did next to nothing in those advanced areas, and required Daka to track back to fill his spot. His corner for the goal was welldelivered though. 5/10

AYOZE PEREZ: He sometimes intercepted passes meant for other City players, but there was very little creative play, with all of his balls picked off. Did produce a very nice flick on for the goal though. 5/10

KELECHI IHEANACHO: His night was summed up in a matter of seconds, when he blocked Dewsbury-Hall’s goalbound header, then hooked a shot against the post. 5/10

PATSON DAKA: Made runs down the left to try to get in behind, but frequently made the wrong choices, either crossing to nobody, passing too far backwards, or attempting to shoot through a crowd of bodies. After bamboozling Spartak in Russia, he barely had a sniff here. 4/10

SUBSTITUTES

ADEMOLA LOOKMAN: His dribble attempts were valiant, but fruitless. However, his late surge won a penalty. 5/10

WILFRED NDIDI: Spread play left to right with the urgency City needed, while helped pen Spartak in. 6/10

JAMIE VARDY: His first penalty of the season and one of the worst he’s ever taken for City. 4/10

KIERAN DEWSBURY-HALL: Very unlucky not to get a first City goal as he penetrated the box well. 6/10
