Getting our vital jabs easier said than done

-

HAVING just read Leicestershire director of public health Mike Sandy’s stern advice in today’s Mercury (“Don’t be stupid: get vaccinated”, Mercury, November 4), I’d like to give Mailbox readers a brief outline of our experience so far:

I rang the GP surgery a month ago to book our flu vaccinations. Unfortunately, all their clinics were full for October and they hadn’t decided if they’d be doing any in November.

A local pharmacy had us on their waiting list for three weeks, only to announce when the day arrived that they had no flu vaccine suitable for our age group.

Then, when trying to book my husband’s Covid booster, the online system suggested appointments in Northampton, Coventry, Rugby and Milton Keynes.

That seemed a long way to travel from Oadby so we tried again the next day. But, Eureka! The Leicester Royal Infirmary had a slot for Saturday morning, but then hours later a text and email arrived to say it had been cancelled.

My point, Mr Sandys, is that many of us are trying very hard to do the right thing, but it’s not proving to be at all easy.

Karen Preston, Oadby
