This year’s professional competition begins with a double bill, as the rising stars of the British catering trade put their reputations on the line.
The first heat introduces two different skills tests, set by judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti, above. Marcus asks the chefs to make a classic dish – bangers and mash with beer and onion gravy. Monica’s challenge is a little more intimidating, as she asks for a perfectly prepared portion of monkfish, served with a pea and bacon ragu.
The second episode allows the chefs to really make their mark, bringing their personality to the table by cooking their own signature two-course menus.
