Connor returning to the Lions

-

CONNOR Mountain is on his way back to race for Leicester next season.

The announcement is the first name on the team-sheet and Lions co-promoter David Darcy feels sure it will meet with fans’ approval.

“Connor had a great following at Leicester and he was a key rider in our Championship-winning side of two years ago,” he said.

“But circumstances dictated that we could not fit him back into the current side so we agreed to a loan arrangement.

“I believe Connor will come back to us as a more rounded rider after the experience of riding a smaller track than Leicester’s.

“We witnessed how much he had improved when he rode against us last season for Newcastle and as a guest for Scunthorpe when they were short-handed.”

The Norfolk-born racer spent last season out on loan to Newcastle where his performances for the North East club caught the attention of top Premiership club, the King’s Lynn Stars, who were in the market for strengthening one of their reserve positions.

Mountain acquitted himself well whilst racing for both clubs and it is thought that the 24-year-old will occupy either the number two or four position in Leicester’s team when speedway returns for the 2022 season next year.

Darcy said: “The team building process is nicely taking shape and we are close to being able to announce a second signing any day now which again I am predicting that supporters will be delighted with when it is released.”

The Lions announced on Sunday that Hans Andersen, Zaine Kennedy and Ryan Douglas, three of their regular seven this season, will not be returning to Leicester next season.
