A COUNTY councillor has raised concerns about a town’s appearance after numerous bits of graffiti have emerged courtesy of an artist who goes by the tag name “Cave”.

Councillor Ted Parton, of Loughborough’s Southfields ward, called the anonymous vandalism “thoughtless” and “selfish”.

Private property, public property, lampposts, bus shelters, windows, houses, telephone boxes, bins and road traffic signs are among those vandalised over the past several months.

Police said anyone who knows “Cave” should report them online or call 101.

A force spokesman said: “We are interested in identifying the person responsible for the ‘Cave’ graffiti that is appearing across the Southfields ward and would like to speak to anyone who may know who they are.”

Coun Parton said in recent weeks the individual has escalated their behaviour, with the sheer number of areas in the town now “defaced” with the tag running into the hundreds.

He said: “Compared to some of the major issues we face, graffiti will seem insignificant to some.

“The reality is that our great town is systematically being defaced, devalued and made to look scruffy, because of the selfish actions of this offender.

“My own area of Southfields ward has countless defaced areas, caused by this thoughtless offender. “

“The actions of Cave are causing many good people a lot of work. Even more surprising is that there is a clear offer of quality spray-paint artwork available, as we seek to continue the official Ladybird Collective murals.

“I urge Cave to immediately cease this damage, which brings no benefit to others and instead showcase their talent in the form of a legitimate mural.”

Police and Leicestershire County Council’s Impact youth team are seeking to engage with young people, in order to learn the identity of the artist.
