Two Furys heading to the city

TYSON WILL BE JOINED BY DAD AT MORNINGSIDE ARENA NEXT MONTH

LEICESTER fight fans will get to see two Furys at the Morningside Arena next month.

Tyson Fury, described as “the biggest character in boxing and the best heavyweight of his era by a mile” by promoter Clifton Mitchell, is meeting fans on Monday, December 6.

Mitchell has now revealed his largerthan-life father, John

Fury, will also be at the question-andanswer session. Fury Snr revealed recently: “Tyson was a big softie. He was bullied. “I would go to the school gates to talk to people – then he found the fighter inside him.” Fury taught his son how to box and still trains with him.

He was a heavyweight contender himself whose 13-fight career peaked with a win over Italian champion Cesare Di Benedetto in 1991.

That led to him being paired with Manny Burgo in a British title eliminator. But around three days before the fight, Burgo pulled out and was replaced by Henry Akinwande. Akinwande was a gangly Londoner who, at 6ft 7ins, towered over Fury by four inches, and would go on to win the WBO heavyweight championship.

Fury was beaten in three rounds and went on to compete on the underground bareknuckle circuit, winning all his fights, including a battle with an Irish champion that netted him more than £100,000.

Fury has been used recently as a pundit by BT Sport and has entertained after-dinner audiences with stories from his own life and bringing up sons Tyson and Tommy.

Tommy, a former contestant on Love Island, fights Jake Paul in a lucrative match in Tampa, Florida, on December 18.

Fury’s rivalry with Paul has been brewing for months, with the pair exchanging barbs on social media on numerous occasions.
