VESTERGAARD REVEALS WHY HE HAS NOT NOT YET SHOWN HIS TOP FORM FOR CITY
LEICESTER City summer signing Jannik Vestergaard is eager to get back to his top form after admitting he has made an “uneven” start to the season, writes Amie Wilson.
The 29-year-old Danish central defender completed a move to the King Power Stadium in the summer after a serious injury to French centre-half Wesley Fofana during preseason.
Vestergaard signed a three-year contract after City paid Southampton a fee of around £15 million.
Since his arrival, Vestergaard has started four of the 11 Premier League games, coming on as a substitute in a further three matches.
The return of Jonny Evans to fitness has also meant limited game time in the last four matches.
Vestergaard is away on international duty with Denmark along with City team-mate Kasper Schmeichel.
The nation were in World Cup qualifying action against Scotland in Glasgow last night.
Ahead of that game, Vestergaard reflected on what has been a hectic few months and his own personal form.
“My club change has been big and a bit of an upheaval,” he told a press conference.
“I ran into an injury on top of zero vacation and start-up, so it has been a little bit uneven – both for me personally and for the team.
“So as happy I am for everything that has happened, I am just as hungry to improve and get up to the level I have shown before and which I know I have.”
Vestergaard may be able to show that level in the next couple of months with City facing a hectic fixture schedule.
City’s participation in the Premier League, Europa League and the Carabao Cup means they face a total of nine games in December.
