Our hope Chigs into Bake Off grand final
THE county could have another Great British Bake Off winner on their hands after Chigs Parmer won through to the final of the TV show.
He joins Giuseppe Dell’Anno and Crystelle Pereira in next week’s grand final.
The 40-year-old sales manager from Leicester remains on course to follow in the footsteps of Frances Quinn, from Market Harborough, who won the show eight years ago.
Chigs made it through at the expense of viewers’ favourite Jürgen Krauss.
The German won the technical challenge for patisserie week and also had three Star Baker awards under his belt.
Nicknamed the Jürgenator because of his determination, the 56-year-old’s controversial exit comes just one week after he dropped his vegan sausage rolls onto the floor and then served them to the judges – leading to speculation that this was pay-back time.
Prue found Jürgen’s coffee and chocolate Murder at the Opera creation sensational but Paul complained about the flavours, saying: “I like it, but I don’t love it.”
His sablé Breton tart won first place in the technical challenge, but his joy was short-lived, after his themed entremets display showstopper failed to impress as much as his rivals’ did, with the judges calling his choice of colours bland.
In contrast, Chigs’ apple-themed effort was deemed exceptional and Crystelle was moved to tears when her fruity creation was described as flawless.
■■Chigs has introduced fans to a new member of the family.
In a video he showed off a dachshund puppy, saying: “Everyone, meet Pablo.”
When not walking his new dog, Chigs has described his hobbies as skydiving and trekking.
He has completed the Yorkshire three peaks challenge and has set his sights on climbing Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
