THE climax to this year’s Leicestershire and Rutland B Team Golf League season was held at Cosby GC, when 12 clubs were represented by 96 golfers, writes Jennifer Prentice.

The field were all competing for individual awards and for the best team.

Host club Cosby won the Team of the Day award with a splendid tally of 204 points for which the best six individual scores counted and the Finals Day Champion was Martyn Davies of Lutterworth GC, who had a score of 40 points.

Karl Woolston (Humberstone Heights) had the best Captain’s score on finals day when he notched a total of 34 points.

Paul Hinson (Whetstone) is the League’s Player of the Year. He scored a well constructed 37 points.

The presentation ended with the 2021 league champions and runners-up trophies handed to Beedles Lake and Humberstone Heights respectively.

This league season was completed by all 12 clubs in two divisions with a play-off between the winners of each division on a neutral course.

Beedles Lake lifted the trophy after triumphing 3-2 in the final at Glen Gorse GC.

The 2021 season involved two divisions for the first time and has been hailed a tremendous success.

New champions Beedles Lake, under the captaincy of Robson King, were warmly congratulated, as were all the 12 teams taking part.

Next season gets under way in April with high hopes again for another highly successful, enjoyable and competitive campaign.

Steve Winder (Market Harborough), the B League chairman and organiser, said: “We will be continuing with the same 12 clubs in the league next season, but we have rejigged the two divisions, so that we mix up the clubs.

“Over a three-year period all clubs will play each other. Next year will be the second year.

“If any other clubs wish to join us, they can make contact through our website, or make contact directly with me.

“It is an enjoyable and friendly tournament and everyone is highly enthusiastic about its future.”
