Yobs target Scout hut as community group is holding a meeting

-

VANDALS have again attacked a Scout hut in Barwell, banging on its doors and windows while a group of workers and youngsters were meeting inside.

The yobs also dented and scratched a car parked outside the hut, on Wednesday evening.

The building, in Byron Close, next to Radford Park, has been targeted several times recently, with all of its windows broken during some of the incidents.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 8.30pm on Wednesday to a report of a number of youths banging on the windows and doors of a community building in Byron Close, Barwell.

“There was a community group meeting inside the building at the time.

“Due to operational demand, no police officers attended. Throughout the call it was determined that no criminal offences had occurred.”

Councillor Russ Roberts, who represents the village on Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, reported the latest attack to the police.

He said: “It’s totally unacceptable behaviour. It will be interesting to see whether any of them were from the three in the previous incident as we already know some of the names.

“I will be following up with the Scout/Cub leaders today to discuss the issues, not to mention report the damage to the car, no matter how insignificant.

“It’s sometimes this time of year, when it turns dark, we have a spot of bother.

“Kids ganging around, acting the fool. But some of the stuff going on up there has been more than that.

“There’s been a bit of a drug issue. I have been putting pressure on the police to do more patrols, more often.”

The councillor said that villagers have found drug paraphernalia in the park and can often smell cannabis in the area.
