AN artist has thanked everyone who voted for him after his paintings won him a national award.

Jarvis Brookfield secured the People’s Choice Award in this year’s Robert Walters Group UK New Artist of the Year Award, in collaboration with Saatchi Gallery.

He was one of 10 shortlisted for the award, which sets out to discover and champion exceptional artists who are representative of contemporary Britain.

It is organised by global recruitment consultancy Robert Walters Group, arts charity UK New Artists (UKNA) and contemporary art platform Saatchi Gallery to help provide a career springboard for emerging artists.

The shortlisted artists exhibited their work at the Saatchi Gallery at the beginning of November and the exhibition was presented online in a virtual gallery.

Between November 7 and December 13, the public had the opportunity to vote online for their favourite artist from the finalists.

Jarvis secured the largest number of the 1,300 votes cast. His prize will be an opportunity to exhibit internationally, supported by UKNA.

His work is also included in the forthcoming UKNA City Takeover: Leicester 22 which brings together 70 emerging artists, musicians and performers from around the UK for a weekend of culture in venues and public spaces across Leicester city centre.

It takes place from February 25 to 27. More details will be announced in January.

Jarvis said: “Thank you to every one of you who has taken the time to vote for me in the People’s Choice award. It makes me feel a sense of joy to see that you’re enjoying the art that I create. I’m feeling grateful and honoured to have won.”

Michelle Bowen, director of UK New Artists, said: “Many congratulations to Jarvis. We had a fantastic response from the public to the virtual exhibition and are delighted that Jarvis’s paintings received the popular vote. We look forward to working with him.” Jarvis studied art at De Montfort University.

He said his immersive and vibrant paintings are inspired by altered states of consciousness, creating worlds that transcend worldly affairs and embody a celebration of the internal and mysterious world of what it means to be human.
