PLAYER RATINGS

-

KASPER SCHMEICHEL: Terrible kicking twice put City in trouble. But then produced one of the saves of the season to deny Jota’s header. 5/10

RICARDO PEREIRA: Clearly hampered by the dreadful Morton tackle that eventually forced him off. Played a part in City’s opener, but was beaten too often defensively. 5/10

WILFRED NDIDI: It was going so well until the final minute. He had read the game superbly to shut down attacks, while he had battled well in the box and in the corners, but then misread a long ball to allow Minamino to equalise. 6/10

CAGLAR SOYUNCU: What a shame he had to be taken off. He was defending calmly and stoutly to keep Liverpool out, and produced a super sliding challenge to deny Jota. 7/10

LUKE THOMAS: Really competitive in the tackles, while he always picked the right ball, keeping it simple when needed, but also pinging forward some excellent long-range passes. 8/10

BOUBAKARY SOUMARE: The first goal was exactly what City want to see from Soumare: taking control of the game and driving forward with it. 7/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: A very quiet match. So important to City’s play usually, perhaps the number of midfielders saw his influence wane. 6/10

KIERNAN DEWSBURY-HALL: Another awesome display. He worked really hard defensively, and did not give Liverpool any time on the ball. In possession, he played the right short passes but also sent Daka clear with direct, pinpoint balls. 8/10

JAMES MADDISON: A fourth game in a month in which he has both scored and assisted. In numbers terms, he is in the form of his life. The pass for Vardy’s opener was crisp, and his strike was stunning. 8/10

JAMIE VARDY: The first 15 minutes was a masterclass in movement, first peeling off his man to create space for the pass and then getting up to support Daka. Injury prevented him from having a big impact in the second half. 8/10

PATSON DAKA: Used his pace to brilliant effect to race away from defenders, and showed that selflessness again to set up Vardy’s second goal. His pressing was very good too. 8/10

SUBSTITUTES

MARC ALBRIGHTON: Almost immediately after coming on, he made an excellent tackle and a brilliant headed clearance, and defended very well all. 7/10

KELECHI IHEANCHO: Only back in training a day and he looked rusty for it. His passes were off, and he didn’t move the ball quickly enough. 4/10

JANNIK VESTERGAARD: With City sitting deeper, it suited his game, and he defended the box very well most of the time, clearing crosses and getting his body in the way of shots. 6/10

RYAN BERTRAND: Didn’t do much wrong but neither were there many stand-out moments. His penalty was poor. 4/10
