Various denominations are pieces of a jigsaw

-

YOU don’t have to “go to church” to be a “good person” – this myth was exploded years ago.

Some of the nicest, kindest, most altruistic people you could ever meet profess no religious faith whatsoever.

For the Christian, however, faith is the reason for such behaviour, its challenge to us and its joys as well.

We live like this, or at least try to, because we love Our Lord Jesus Christ and want to live in his way.

We believe that his gospel of “anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it” is true for all people in all places and at all times, whatever their religious affiliation.

There is no future for us as a society, country or planet, if we only look to ourselves and our own needs and interests at the expense of others, particularly those who are suffering through no fault of their own.

We have seen the folly of such an attitude, both internationally and nationally, a lot just lately.

I am proud to be a Christian in this town and proud of being part of Churches Together.

I have made some lovely friends, many of whom have been very kind to me and reinforced my own faith, which I deeply appreciate.

We all profess that “Jesus is Lord” but express that faith in different ways in accordance with our respective traditions, not in competition with each other but to complement each other in his service and it is a wonderful thing.

For me, the Lord’s Church is all of us together, like pieces of a jigsaw, each necessary and different, to make up a beautiful picture for everyone to behold and cherish. Long may it continue thus.
