Cafe at country park reopens after revamp
THE Deer Barn Café at beauty spot Bradgate Park has reopened.
The eatery, at the heart of the park, has been closed since the end of February for a refurbishment.
Situated alongside the visitor centre, the new-look cafe gives visitors the chance to take a break from their walk around the park and enjoy a drink and snack.
You can sit inside the contemporary-style cafe, or on one of the benches outside, from where you can take in the views across Cropston Reservoir.
The venue is one of a number of places serving food and drink at Bradgate Park.
There’s also the Deer Hut, serving hot drinks and freshly made crepes and waffles, Alonzi’s ice-cream vans, and the Conservatory Tearoom, near to the Newtown Linford entrance to the park.
Bradgate Park was first enclosed as a deer park around 800 years ago.
It provides 830 acres of publicly accessible countryside.
You can enjoy walking in the wild and rugged landscape, which features dramatic rocky outcrops and gnarled old oak trees, many of which are more than 500 years old.
The park also features the historic ruins of Bradgate House – home of nine-day queen Lady Jane Grey – and the landmark Old John’s Tower.
