Plenty to appreciate as summer approaches

-

WITH so much trouble about in the world and, of course, with particular reference to Ukraine, plus the Covid pandemic, which has also caused a lot of pain and anguish, one feels the need just now and then to produce a letter to try and spread some hope and pleasure still to be had in humanity and nature.

The excellent generosity being shown throughout the country and particularly from our county to giving financial aid to those in distress is wonderful to see.

The overworked hospital staff, doctors and nurses and all staff concerned with helping the sick need a great thank you for all they are doing in difficult circumstances.

We have the coming of lighter, longer days and warmer weather hopefully as summer approaches, and also some hope that travel will improve at least to some parts of the world for those lucky enough to be able to take advantage.

And there’s the enjoyment one can get from our gardens as colourful flowers arise and the views from windows improve.

Then there is the success of our rugby team, Leicester Tigers, a club superbly run and producing great performances in cup and league competitions and especially the emergence of young players in all positions.

Steve Borthwick is a name to deserve the highest praise and Brendan Rodgers’ faithful, hardworking running of Leicester City is also a major help in making a lot of people’s days happier. We are lucky here to have two such men in charge.

And an increasing number of very well-run cafes and restaurants are now serving our county and the friendly staff are most welcoming.

Also very notable these days are the increasing number of pets being owned and well looked after, giving pleasure and company to their families.

This is an area much improved from previous years.

So, let’s dwell on these areas for a moment and get things into perspective and know there are lots of things to be admired.
