BOOT CAMP AND ARMY ASSAULT COURSE FOR MASSES IN COUNTY

- By STAFF REPORTER militarymissionrun.com

TWO former servicemen have teamed up to bring military style fitness to the masses with a new county venture which will also raise money for veterans.

Based on an assault course format mixed with bootcamp exercises, Military Mission Run is a new fitness concept aimed at all age groups and abilities which promises to test both resolve and stamina.

Entrepreneur and businessman Mark Lawrence is no stranger to being “beasted”, having spent 10 years in the Army, but he has always had a passion for keeping fit and the benefits it brings, both physically and mentally.

“Exercise is a great stress-reliever, when you’re pushing yourself, your body releases endorphins which in turn make you feel good,” said Mark.

Though he has now been out of the Army for 15 years, in that time Mark has set up a number of successful businesses including an outdoor activity centre in Norfolk, which focussed on corporate team building.

When Mark’s uncle passed away at the end of last year, his aunt was left with 20 acres of land near Melton Mowbray which she had no idea what to do with - and Mark sensed an opportunity.

He was keen to do something fitness related, but wanted any new venture to stand out, and also give back to veterans’ charities.

“Our servicemen and women give so much, we wanted to do something to help them,” said Mark.

The idea of Military Mission Run (MMR) was born - a unique militarystyle assault course where fitness enthusiasts of all abilities can enjoy running through trenches and over man-made obstacles, as well as being “beasted” in mini bootcamps – just for the fun of it – while raising money to help change the lives of retired service personnel.

Earlier this year, Mark was introduced to Andy Turner, also a former military man who went on to train as a PT instructor after leaving.

Andy had also set up his own bootcamp enterprise which he has been running for the past six years, and between them, they transformed the 20 acre site into an authentic, challenging, militarystyle assault course designed to test the resolve of even the fittest and most experienced adventure seekers.

It is designed to be a no gimmicks, no fluff experience delivering an allround body workout.

Mark said “With a focus on military methods, participants can be sure they’re getting the best workout possible from the people who know how to deliver a real authentic military physical fitness test - ex forces!”

Andy said: “I’ve been involved in fitness and sport since a young boy and I want participants to feel energised, and proud of what they can achieve if they focus and apply themselves. With our help, Military

Mission Run will guide them towards that goal.”

People can sign up for as many events - or “missions” - as they like, and completing each enables the participant to climb the ranks from private to regimental sergeant major, adding an element of fun and gamification to the overall experience.

The first “Mission Run” takes place on May 29, with more happening throughout the summer.
