Soumare gives City options in the midfield

-

LeiCester City welcome Boubakary soumare back into the squad for tonight’s first leg of their europa Conference League semifinal against roma, with Brendan rodgers confirming he has a near clean bill of health, writes Jordan Blackwell.

soumare has been missing for recent games for unspecified personal reasons, but comes back into contention for the tie at the King Power stadium.

the Frenchman has only played 11 minutes of football since February, in the win over Brentford last month.

He gives rodgers another option in midfield, which is where he is short, with Wilfred Ndidi out and Papy Mendy not registered.

the manager has previously said he is “really limited” in the centre of the park, with Youri tielemans and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall playing every game since the last international break.

With rodgers confirming that the only fresh problem was for thirdchoice goalkeeper eldin Jakupovic, City will have both Wesley Fofana and Jonny evans available.

Fofana was seen limping away from the ground after the goalless draw with Aston Villa with heavy strapping on his ankle, while evans was rested completely because of tightness he felt after the draw with everton.

“thankfully, the injury list is right down, so there’s nothing new to add,” rodgers said yesterday.

“Bouba soumare will come back into the squad, it’s only Wilf and ryan Bertrand who are the two long-term ones.

“eldin, our third goalkeeper, is out as well, but apart from that we’ve virtually got everyone ready.

“it was just about managing Jonny over a really busy schedule. But he’s fit, ready and available.”
