Roll up, the ‘circus with purpose’ is back in town
THE circus is in town today for two special performances.
Circus Starr is back in Braunstone today for the first time since the pandemic as it boasts a range of both accessible and inclusive acts under its Big Top tent.
Created for children who are new to the spectacle of live performance or struggle to sit and concentrate, the show’s main aim is to entertain local children who have disabilities and additional learning needs.
The events are funded by local businesses so that families can enjoy live arts in a relaxed environment at no cost to themselves.
Fund-raising director Michelle Crossley is thrilled to return with the traditional set up.
She said: “We cant wait to fill our Big Top tent with smiles and laughter again.
“The impact of coronavirus can be seen in so many ways, so we know that an event like ours is needed now more than ever.
“We’re looking forward to uniting those who may feel isolated in their community through the magical art of circus, in a safe and inclusive environment.”
The troupe’s spring tour will include two shows in the car park of Braunstone Park today.
The “circus with a purpose” will have trapeze acts, juggling and more – plus a performance from their newest act, Chico Rico the clown.
Both performances will be held indoors and will delight with a fantastic array of circus talent from balancing skills to contortion.
Due to the pandemic, the last time the Big Top visited was in 2019.
The full address for the event is Braunstone Park Car Park, Cort Crescent, Leicester, LE3 1QL.
Tickets for the performances are allocated and distributed to schools and organisations in advance, but sometimes there are a few available via the Circus Starr website.
