‘Get behind the county’s bid to claim a fourth T20 crown’
CEO SEAN JARVIS WANTS FULL CROWDS FOR THE SEVEN HOME FIXTURES
LEICESTERSHIRE County Cricket Club’s chief executive Sean Jarvis has urged people to rally behind the club for the upcoming T20 campaign, writes Jack Gabriel.
This year’s competition begins later this month with a doubleheader at Uptonsteel County Ground, when Leicestershire Foxes host Durham Cricket (Thursday, May 26) before East Midlands rivals Derbyshire Falcons arrive on the Saturday (May 28).
The Foxes will host seven T20 encounters in total, with Lancashire Lightning visiting on Tuesday, June 7), Notts Outlaws (Friday, June 10) and Worcestershire Rapids (Friday, June 17).
The group stage concludes with another double-header on home soil as Leicestershire take on Northamptonshire Steelbacks (Friday, July 1) and Yorkshire Vikings (Sunday, July 3).
Ahead of the opening fixtures, Jarvis has urged the LCCC faithful to show their support for the club.
He said: “We are incredibly proud to stand as the most successful county in T20 history, but we need the support of our community to not only help the club to try to secure a fourth title but also to continue its ambitions to thrive.
“We have seven home fixtures and these seven events with full crowds can make a significant difference to the financial future of the club.
“Without the support of our fans and businesses, quite simply, we wouldn’t survive.”
Jarvis said: “T20s are critical financially for the club, so the more fans and businesses that back us, the better.
“We are member-run and don’t have rich benefactors to help us, so every penny spent at the club can’t be underestimated.” Head coach Paul Nixon, a threetime champion as a player with the Running Foxes, will be hoping to lead his side to a fourth title as the Vitality Blast marks its 20th anniversary this summer.
Leicestershire’s ambitions to add to their rich T20 heritage will be boosted by the return of Afghanistan superstar Naveen-ul-Haq, who topped the competition’s wicket-taking charts last season with 26, while his international team-mate Rahmanullah Gurbaz is set to headline the batting with his bighitting expertise. Uptonsteel
County Ground has already played host to some of the Blast’s most famous moments, from the thrilling 204-run chase in the 2011 quarterfinal versus Kent to captain Colin Ackermann’s world-record figures of 7-18 against Birmingham Bears in 2019.
