Independence Day opening? It couldn’t be NYC-er...
BROOKLYN HOTEL BY RUGBY GROUND ANNOUNCES IT WILL OPEN ON JULY 4
LEICESTER’S Hotel Brooklyn, which is being built next to Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road stadium, will open its doors for the first time on Independence Day, Monday, July 4.
Inspired by the New York borough it shares its name with, the venue is set to bring a touch of New York glamour to the city.
It will be the second hotel bearing the Hotel Brooklyn brand - the first having opened in Manchester in 2020.
The 191-room Leicester hotel will include a number of “skyline suites”, rooms with hot-tub terraces and executive suites with free-standing baths. There will also be dog-friendly rooms, quirky, modern rooms and spaces for what is described as “sophisticated and fun” corporate hospitality.
Inspired by Brooklyn’s loft spaces, the bedrooms will have “high-spec” finishes, featuring beds upholstered in burgundy leather and desk chairs upholstered in soft fabrics. Feature walls are decorated in the style of the graphic artist MC Escher.
The company says it aims to push the boundaries for what a hotel should be offering when it comes to accessibility for people with disabilities.
It will feature 10 fully-accessible and six “ambulant-accessible” bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, with rails and shower seats. All accessible rooms will have adjoining rooms for carers if needed. Plus, the company says staff with disabilities will also have access to changing and shower facilities tailored to their needs.
MOVIES, ACOUSTIC NIGHTS
Guests arriving at reception will enter an atrium - an indoor street with the look and feel of a Brooklyn neighbourhood.
Flooded with light from the glass front to the building, the area will feature red brick, signs and exposed steel gantries providing an urban backdrop for the pop-up Runyon’s Bar - a nod to the great American newspaper man and short-story writer, Damon Runyon. The Lair will be the hub of the hotel with an open plan bar, restaurant and living/ working space that aims to provide a flexible, social environment.
The bar will be at the centre of the open plan space, and the stepped seating area - The Grandstand - will provide an area for watching movies, acoustic nights and other smaller gatherings.
The Grandstand will be surrounded by big comfy sofas and rich patterned armchairs.
Linked with the central bar, the restaurant will seat 120 guests, with a “theatre-style” kitchen and servery, creating what is described as an “unpretentious, interactive experience” between the kitchen and dingrab ers. The event area will be a versatile space that can be divided into three multi-functional rooms (Guys, Dolls and Curveballs).
It will be capable of hosting a variety of events, including meetings, weddings and even screenings, with its state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and lighting.
As with the Manchester hotel, the interior and its accessible rooms have been overseen by Squid Inc, which specialises in the club, hotel and restaurant sectors.
Specific features have been designed by accessible design company Motionspot.
Nightly rates at Hotel Brooklyn, Leicester, start from £90 for a Club Room on a B&B basis.
