Villagers asked views on plans for 220 homes
A DEVELOPER is asking villagers for their thoughts on plans to build 220 homes and a primary school.
Bloor Homes is carrying out the consultation ahead of submitting a formal planning application this summer.
Proposals for land to the north of Willow Road, Barrow upon Soar also include public open space and a play area.
The developer has included an anticipated timeline for the development, including a predicted winter 2024 completion date.
Locals have until next Thursday to give their feedback.
Under the Charnwood Local Plan – the council’s blueprint for development across the borough – the village is expected to provide 703 more homes across several sites.
The plan allocated 215 homes for the land. Bloor Homes has asked Charnwood Borough Council to extend the development site.
It said the entire proposed site should be included to allow vehicle access from Cotes Road and to have enough space for the potential new primary school. The pre-application public consultation said 30 per cent of the new homes would be classed as “affordable housing”.
There would be pedestrian and cycle access to Willow Road. All the homes would be provided with an electric vehicle charging point.
The developer said construction would create new jobs and economic activity, adding: “The development would also result in an increase in local spend, supporting shops and services within Barrow upon Soar and the wider area.”
A planning application is expected to be submitted this summer and, if approved, construction could begin in spring 2024.
Bloor Homes said to residents: “An outline planning application is expected to be submitted after comments from this consultation have been considered. “Following the submission of the planning application, Charnwood Borough Council will undertake a period of statutory consultation.
“At this stage you will have the opportunity to submit your comments to the council before a decision is made.
“It is expected the application will be determined by the council later in 2022.”
