Activity sessions at LCFC hub for diabetes sufferers

A SERIES of gentle activity classes to help people with diabetes to get fitter, stronger and healthier are kick offing at Leicester’s football stadium.

Diabetes UK is running a series of free sessions until July to encourage city people living with the condition to get active.

You just register in advance and join them on Thursdays, 9.30am to 10.30am from today (final session

July 28) at Leicester Football Club, Community Hub, 1884 Sports Bar, King Power Stadium, Leicester.

There are face-to-face classes running across other parts of the Midlands too and the charity also runs online sessions

Saima Younas, Diabetes UK physical activity project co-ordinator, said: “We hope people in Leicester who live with diabetes and are currently finding it hard to get active or need support take up this opportunit­y. It’s a great springboar­d to a healthier you and small changes really do add up to big health benefits.

“Many of us have felt anxious, worried and unable to keep active during the coronaviru­s pandemic. It really has never been more important to introduce activity for both a healthy body and a healthy mind. Why not come and join us for these friendly sessions, meet people in the same situation as you and take that first step to a healthier you?”

Moving more when you have diabetes is an important way of managing your condition and making a few small changes in your daily life can give your health a real boost.

Some of the many benefits of physical activity include helping the body use insulin better; helping to look after your blood pressure, as high blood pressure increases your risk of diabetes complicati­ons; and helping you lose weight.
