Seasons on loan may be over for Iversen – club boss

-

DANIEL Iversen has been backed to remain at Leicester City or leave on a permanent deal – but not go out on loan again.

The Danish goalkeeper has been training at City over the past week after the conclusion of his seasonlong loan at Championship side Preston. Iversen was a huge hit at North End, winning the player of the season award.

It was the 24-year-old’s fourth straight season out on loan, having spent the previous year at Preston and City’s sister club OH Leuven on the back of campaigns with Rotherham and Oldham, where he became a fans’ favourite. But spells on loan may be over for Iversen.

Preston director Peter Risdale has cast doubt on North End being able to re-sign Iversen for the new season and suspects the next step in his career will either see him brought into the first team at City, or leave the King Power Stadium permanently.

Risdale said in an interview for his club: “The odds of Daniel Iversen coming back are slim. We’ve had him for 18 months and he’s done outstandingly well.

“My guess is he will either stay in the Leicester fold or look for a permanent move somewhere.”

City boss Brendan Rodgers said he had a long chat with Iversen at Seagrave last week following the end of his Preston loan spell, having been impressed with what he’s seen of the Dane.

He did not give any indications on his future but there may not be room for him in the City squad next season.

Despite speculation surrounding the future of Kasper Schmeichel, it’s understood he is likely to remain at City this summer and see out his contract with the club.

With Danny Ward and Eldin Jakupovic also in the ranks, there may not be room for Iversen.

However, if Schmeichel leaves next summer, City will then be in need of a new keeper and may want to then bring Iversen into the fold.

Whether he will want another loan spell until then, or whether he would now like to begin his career at a new permanent club, remains to be seen.
