Work with animals – and people – at the zoo
ROLES ranging from retail and cleaning to working with the animals are on offer at Twycross Zoo.
The attraction is advertising for: Summer Customer Service Assistant: A number of roles are available for flexible candidates able to work up to five days a week, including some weekend work, from July to September.
The zoo said successful candidates could work the pay booths, man soft play, steward car parks, and work in the new Gruffalo discovery area. Retail Assistant: A number of vacancies also run until early September. Full or part-time hours are available, but weekend working is a must.
Cleaner: A permanent contract for a part-time cleaner is being advertised, working 22 hours per week over three days with weekends. Senior Animal Keeper (Mammals): Duties include preparing and distributing food and water to animals, observing the animals and assisting with their capture and restraint, assisting with maintaining enclosures and public viewing areas, helping develop trainee keepers, and interacting with the public.
Four years’ experience minimum is required and you must have the correct qualifications. The salary is about £22,000 a year.
Deputy Team Leader (Birds, Herptiles and Invertebrates): Supervising a team of six keepers, with animal diets to be reviewed, creature social groups to be managed, and breeding programmes to monitor.
Experience working with birds in a zoological environment is required, as is a relevant degree or qualification. The salary is about £25,000.
Curator of Animal Operations: To be responsible for the management and leadership of the animal team and the animal welfare programme.
As a senior role within the zoo, the salary is £45,000 a year.
