THREE contenders from Sileby’s Thai-Tanium Thai Boxing Club enjoyed a hat-trick of victories at the Collide show held in Lowestoft.

Seventeen-year-old Dan Kewmoss, from Thurmaston, was crowned the AFSO Southern Area champion.

Dan went up against another upand-coming youngster, 18-year-old Jacob Jones, from Conflict Muay Thai, based on the Isle of Wight.

From the opening round, Jacob really took the fight to Dan, landing heavy hands followed by head kicks.

Jacob seemed comfortable and in control until round three, when Dan turned the tables.

With his opponent tiring, Dan was able to land more of his shots, including a devastating body shot right on the bell to end the third round.

Knowing this had hurt Jacob, Dan went straight on the front foot looking for that body shot, and eventually it came, sending Jacob to the canvas, though he managed to beat the count.

In the final round, Dan started as he left off and hunted his opponent down looking for the finish.

Unfortunately, the finish never came but the judges scored the fight in Dan’s favour to see him become the AFSO Southern Area Champion.

Jamie Knox, head coach at Sileby’s Thai-Tanium Thai Boxing Club and himself a former world champion, said: “It was an amazingly hard fought bout with both lads really wanting to be crowned the champion. Respect to both boys, credit to both gyms.”

Thai-Tanium also had two other fighters at the show.

Millergan Lowe, 14, of Thurmaston, was in the junior category and was coming off a loss in his last fight.

But he took the fight to his opponent, winning practically every round with a dominant display and getting a unanimous decision.

The club’s third fighter was 19-year-old Eugene Sir Lawrence, from Syston, sponsored by Providor Ltd.

Eugene was up against another fighter from Conflict Muay Thai on the Isle of Wight.

His opponent, being the smaller of the two, went to get on the front foot to try to close the gap on Eugene.

But Eugene used his jab and kicks beautifully to keep him at bay, catching his opponent with a body shot followed by head kick that sent him to the canvas.

His opponent beat the count but Eugene never gave him any time to recuperate and threw a great straight right hand followed by a hook, dropping him again. This time the referee stopped the fight with the other fighter in no condition to continue. A great knockout win for Eugene.

Knox said: “I couldn’t be any prouder of my fighters.

“They train so hard and make so many sacrifices to get where they want to be and when we get results like this it makes it all worth it.”
