Plans for 125 homes and nature reserve on village site

PLANS have been submitted for 125 homes and a nature reserve on disused farm and industrial land.

Bloor Homes’ proposals include the part-demolition and conversion of an 18th century Georgian farmstead off Melton Road, in Queniborough.

Outline planning permission for homes on the land was granted in 2015, but this expired before work was carried out.

The land was allocated for housing in Charnwood Borough Council’s Local Plan.

Industrial buildings on the site are all now vacant.

The developer said the scheme would include a “sympathetic restoration” of Queniborough Lodge and its outbuildings, as well as the creation of a park and a nature reserve. It is proposing a variety of one-bedroom to four-bedroom homes. If given the green light, a new park – set to be named Wreake Valley Park – would include a community orchard, allotments and play area. A nature reserve, to be called Wreake Nature Sanctuary, is also on the cards. A portion of the land would be set aside for rewilding in order to create a nature refuge. According to the timeline on the public consultation, if the plans are granted, work will begin at the end of this year with a predicted completion date of 2025.

The application was received on June 21 by the council, but has been marked as invalid due to a clerical error.

Bloor Homes has been asked to rectify the mistake to “avoid any delays” in processing the application.
