Everyone’s a winner as races raise a record
DUCK racers raised a record sum at a pub’s annual charity event.
The White Horse, Birstall, saw 1,421 launched in the hope of picking up one of more than 30 prizes.
The total raised, £9,782.39, was a record and £5,936.39 will go to Birstall United Juniors Football Club.
Event organiser Charlotte Foy said: “This was the biggest Duck Race so far.
“It was amazing to see so many people come back and support the race. This year’s event was outstanding. The weather was perfect and the stalls, games and activities were bustling and the duck race crowds along the towpath was a sight to be seen
“It really was a community effort, with lots of people helping to make it a special day and also the funds raised will benefit many local charities.”
BUJFC chairman Kevin Glover said: “We would like to send our heartfelt thanks for being the chosen beneficiaries of this year’s duck race.
“The day was a great success, with stalls for many charities, and fully enjoyed by members of our club.
“The money raised will go towards a one-off project that will benefit all the teams and volunteers.”
Riverside Primary School Parent Teacher Association made over £800, which will fund the Year 6 leavers’ hoodies.
The Bark foundation raised £330 which will feed the children in its orphanage for three days.
Other organisations to benefit included ADHD solutions, Sea Cadets, Women’s Institute, Mia Moo Foundation, Girl Guiding Birstall, The Boys Brigade, the Canal and River Trust, Save the Children Birstall branch, a dance academy, Air Cadets and Jade’s Retreat.
The White Horse raised £284 for Birstall bags.
