Honours even in seniors and ladies match

THE county seniors and the county ladies’ first team met in an early season game at Rothley Park GC as both squads prepare to build up for their busy programmes ahead.

They played two scratch matches and four handicap ones.

The clash ended 3-3 when the ladies won the two scratch games, the men won the first two handicap encounters, and the other two were halved.

Moira Page and Victoria Mayfield beat Mark Illsley and Lee Towers by 2 and 1, while Caz Parkes-Walley and Francesca Brimm beat Matt Horton and Chris Palmer by 1-hole in the scratch games.

In the handicap ones, Karen Bonser and Diana Miller beat Steve Lewis and Gary Spring by 4 and 3, Rachel East and Lisa Porter beat James Hunt and Mick Walker by 3 and 2, Suzanne Pretty and Barbara Suffolk halved their match with John Hardwick and Gerry Latter, and Alison Smith and Sue Holwell halved their match with Paul Lowe and Martin Hall.

KIBWORTH GC held the Captains’ Charity competitio­n which was won by the team of Tom Brach, Aaron Baker, Ryan Hill and Mat Clow with their total of 91 points.

They won by two points from two chasing teams.

George Race, Stuart Knight, Andrew Kelsey and Nicholas Wake were second on local rule from Matt Ingram, Craig Walton, Martin Bettoney and Mark Vellacott, third. Both teams amassed 89 points.

Jon Marsh, Jag Sohota, Christophe­r Appleby and Scott Pilkington with 84 points finished in fourth and the prize list was completed by Tim Haycock, Paul Bracegirdl­e, Will Logsdon and Nigel Dench with 82 points on countback.
