Boutique baker is ‘the best in county’
A POPULAR macaron and cake boutique in Stoneygate has been named the best bakery in Leicestershire.
Baker St Cakes, in Francis Street, is the cream of the crop according to the National Bakery Awards, which has revealed its 62 county winners for 2023.
The Stoneygate boutique was launched in February 2016 by owners Naeem and Nailah Mohamed, who had previously been baking in their home kitchen overnight while working day jobs. Having realised how well-loved their cakes and bakes were, they took the plunge and opened their first boutique.
Since then, they’ve expanded the business, with further branches in Moseley, Birmingham, and Fulwood, Preston. All offer tea, locally roasted coffee and a range of homemade sweet treats.
This includes their signature product, macarons, for which they have won many awards, including a three star Great Taste Award.
Naeem and Nailah have also launched Baker St Cakes Academy, offering masterclasses in all areas of cake decorating and macaron making.
Naeem said: “It’s an honour to have won the Best Bakery in Leicestershire award amid stiff competition from all of the amazing bakeries around us.
“It is a reflection of our commitment to provide our local customers with quality and tasty treats.
“It feels great knowing that our hard work, passion and the dedication and support of our talented team has been acknowledged.
“It’s been a rollercoaster over the past few years with Covid and the increases in costs all around but we and our hard working team have really pushed ourselves and kept strong. And without the support of our lovely customers we wouldn’t be here.”
The National Bakery Awards will host an event on Wednesday, July 12 at 30 Euston Square in London where regional winners will be revealed, along with the winner of National Bakery of the Year.
