Jelley hopes for better luck and podium finish

DRIVER HAD A COLLISION AND PUNCTURE AT BRANDS HATCH

-

STEPHEN Jelley will be hoping for better luck when he heads to Snetterton this weekend for rounds seven, eight, and nine of the British Touring Car Championship season.

The Leicester racer, who is currently competing with Team BMW/ West Surrey Racing, achieved a fourth-placed finish in the season opener at his local circuit of Donington Park.

But it proved to be a trying weekend at Brands Hatch last time out though.

Jelley was caught up in a collision on the opening lap of race one, which meant he also had to sit out race two.

Thanks to the efficient work of the WSR mechanics, his car was back on track for race three and he quickly made his way through the field before a puncture ended his impressive charge.

Jelley will be hoping to have better luck and build on his podium finish from round one when he is back on track in his BMW 330e M Sport.

There will be two 35-minute free practice sessions tomorrow at 9.15am and 12.10pm before qualifying at 3.40pm, which will be shown live and in full on the ITV Sport YouTube channel.

Sunday will consist of three 24 lap races around the 2.969-mile Snetterton 300 circuit.

The first race begins at 11.15am, after which there will be a pit walk and autograph session at 12.45pm, with the later races getting under way at 2.35pm and 5.15pm.

You can watch all the races live on ITV.

Jelley, 41, said: “I’m hoping for a good weekend.

“Brands Hatch didn’t go to plan, through no one’s fault, just some bad luck, but I know that in the dry we have very good pace. There’s a lot of potential there and I’m still fully confident that a race win or a podium is just around the corner.

“We know that Snetterton suits us and we’ve gone well there in the past with solid top five results over the past few years, which is what we’re aiming for right now.

“We have good pace, and it’s a handling circuit which always favours our car.

“The weather is looking nice, which would be good after changeable conditions for the first two weekends, so three strong results are what I think we deserve.”
