Gary on hosting his quiz show and clashing with GMB host

-

LEICESTER City legend Gary Lineker compared Richard Madeley to Alan Partridge after being grilled on Good Morning Britain yesterday.

The Match of the Day host was appearing on GMB to promote the new series of his ITV1 game show, Sitting On A Fortune, which returns on Sunday at 7pm.

But Mr Madeley instead decided to grill the sports presenter about his tweet which earlier this year resulted in him being taken off air.

Mr Lineker had tweeted that the language being used by the Conservatives to discuss immigration was not dissimilar to language used in Germany in the 1930s.

The BBC criticised him for a lack of impartiality and he was taken off air during an investigation. He returned when dozens of fellow pundits and journalists walked out in sympathy.

On GMB yesterday, Mr Madeley accused him of comparing the government to the Nazis and asked if he would do it again, given the fallout.

Mr Lineker said his tweet had been taken out of context or misquoted at the time, and that Mr Madeley was doing it again.

The pair then clashed as the GMB host kept questioning Mr Lineker on his stance and his views.

After his GMB grilling, Mr Lineker went on to appear on Radio X with Chris Moyles.

Asked how his day had been so far, he replied: “Well, it’s been interesting… little interview with Mr Madeley, remember him? Richard Partridge Madeley, we know what you’re like… it was fine.”

Meanwhile, the former Foxes and England striker has compared the challenge of hosting a quiz show to when he joined world football giants Barcelona without speaking a word of Spanish

He said: “I’ve always been adventurous and like turning my hand to something new, like going abroad to play for Barcelona and learning Spanish. I suppose I like the challenge.”
