Tigers ‘sorry’ after bar incident
LEICESTER Tigers have apologised after police were called to Revolution bar in the city centre where players were socialising.
Officers ushered people out of the venue at around midnight on Monday, May 15 following reports of damage inside the popular venue.
Police said officers arrived to smashed glass on the floor and spilt drinks. Revolution Bars Group said an unconfirmed number of the rugby club’s players were involved in the incident but added no guests or employers were assaulted.
The venue has since received a “full apology” from the club while it investigates what happened.
Police are investigating to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
A spokesman for Leicester Tigers said the club was aware of an incident at a bar where players had been.
A Revolution Bars Group spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident that took place on May 15, involving some players from Leicester Tigers.
“We have since received a full apology from the club for the actions of the players.
“The police were in attendance on the evening and we have launched our own investigation.
“As far as we are aware at this point, none of our guests nor employees were assaulted during the incident.”
A Tigers spokesman said: “We are aware players were in the vicinity of the bar when the police were called.
“We have spoken to the bar and apologised. We have not had any official contact from the police regarding this incident and if we were to find any reason for disciplinary action we would do that.”
Leicestershire Police said: “Officers were called at 11.56pm last Monday to a premises in New Walk, following a report of a large gathering and damage was being caused inside. Police attended and assisted in ushering people out of the premises.
“Smashed glass and spilt liquid was found inside the premises. No injuries have been reported. Inquiries remain ongoing into the report and officers are working with staff at the premises to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
