A MUSICIAN who is already in prison following a series of sexual attacks on teenage girls has been given two further jail terms after another witness came forward.

Cassius Povey was jailed for 17 years in April 2022 for a total of 19 offences against nine victims – aged between 14 and 19 – whom he groomed through Facebook.

He has been given two further sixyear jail terms after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

Following Povey’s previous sentencing, another victim came forward to report she was raped twice by the now-30-year-old between May 2017 and June 2018.

Povey, pictured, will serve his additional jail terms concurrently with his existing sentence.

He was found to have “controlled and manipulated” his victims, with one 14-year-old becoming pregnant, which led to her getting an abortion without telling her parents.

Povey was reported to have sat and watched one distraught child take an overdose before making her vomit, before raping her as she lay on a bed semi-conscious and confused.

Eight of the victims were aged 14 or 15, with the ninth being 19 years old when he raped her in a park.

The court heard Povey won the trust of his victims by using outpourings of affections, repeatedly telling them how “beautiful and amazing” they were.

He told two of his victims, after sexually assaulting them, that he committed the violent acts because he suffered from schizophrenia and could not control the actions of his “evil twin”.

The initial offences happened between 2010 and 2016, when Povey was aged 17 to 22.

Povey was outed by a victim on Facebook. He attempted a public apology, but police were notified of the posts made online and investigated, resulting in Povey fleeing from his Aylestone Road bedsit to Elsenham Road in Grimsby, where he was arrested in July 2020.

Det Con Kev Sharkey, from the police‘s Signal team, told the Mercury after his initial sentencing: “While this sentence will not change the experiences these young girls went through, I hope the fact that Povey will be behind bars for such a significant amount of time offers some comfort.

“All the survivors have shown incredible strength, patience and dignity throughout.

“Their evidence has strengthened the case against Povey, making sure he serves the time behind bars that he deserves.”
