In the hours after a fatal crash that killed two men on the A46, tiktok influencer Mahek Bukhari tried to make the police suspect one of the deceased wanted to kill himself, a murder jury has heard.

During her fourth day on the witness stand at Leicester Crown Court yesterday, the social media star continued to be questioned by prosecutor Collingwood thompson KC.

the jury has previously heard that within about eight hours of the crash at 1.30am on Friday, February 11 last year, Mahek and her mother, Ansreen, were arrested at their home in Staffordshire and later taken to be interviewed by detectives in Leicester.

Yesterday morning, Mahek was asked by Mr thompson about her comments to Leicestershire Police officers in which she stated that Saqib hussain was “psychotic”.

She told the detectives Mr hussain self-harmed and would “do anything”. Mr thompson asked Mahek yesterday if she had been trying to suggest to the police that Mr hussain had taken his own life by causing the crash in which he and his friend, Mohammed hashim Ijazuddin, died. She said yes.

Mr thompson asked why she made that suggestion to officers. She said: “Because he is the type. he sent messages where he’s tried to gain attention from my mum to kill himself.”

Mr thompson said: “But what you were suggesting was untrue.”

She said yes.

Later, during the hearing, Mahek told the jury she had not known her mother was having an affair with Mr hussain in May 2021, despite the fact she was at a party in Banbury with both of them that month when they were seen hugging and kissing “throughout” the event.

Mahek insisted she only found out about the affair in December 2021.

the Banbury party was not known about by the detectives when the first trial started in october - before later being halted and a retrial ordered.

During the current trial, Mahek has already admitted she lied to the first jury, telling them she had only met Mr hussain once, in London.

the prosecution has an account from a witness who was also at the party in May 2021 in which he said: “throughout the evening I noticed Saqib and the older female [Ansreen] holding hands, kissing and hugging.” he said they also went to the bedroom together at one point. Mr thompson asked Mahek: “You must have known Saqib and your mother were having a relationship before December 2021. this is what happened at the party. the witness describes your mother and Saqib holding hands, hugging and kissing.”

Mahek said she did at one point notice Mr hussain try to kiss her mother and she had asked Ansreen if anything was going on, but Ansreen denied it. Mahek said: “Saqib tried to kiss my mum. they were really close together.” Mahek maintained that she did not know about the affair until December 2021.

the trial continues.
