A BOROUGH council is celebrating its 50-year anniversary this year with music, dancing and a celebratory festival - and would like to hear from residents also marking the milestone in 2024.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s half century will also be celebrated with an exhibition at Atkins Gallery, in Hinckley as well as a young person conference and tree planting across the borough. Other events are being finalised and will be announced shortly.

A one-off dedicated “birthday celebration” will commemorate the anniversary on Saturday, May 25, at Hollycroft Park, from noon until 8pm.

The event will feature music, food and fun. Music bookings already include Treacle Town, Velvet

Thunder Steven Faulkner, plus music from Dorothy Goodman, Grays Drama Academy and Fosse 107. Residents are encouraged to check the council website and social media channels for further updates.

The Local Government Act of 1972 came into force in April 1974, which saw creation of the authority that is now celebrating its halfcentury.

Council leader Stuart Bray said: “We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you all, and we have already added some exciting events to our annual calendar for you to enjoy.

“Themed events will include a free outdoor music festival in Hollycroft Park, as well as an exhibition of nostalgic photos and memories from 1974 to today, a young person’s conference, civic services and tree planting, plus lots more.”

If you’ve also got a 50th anniversary, the council would like for you to be part of celebrations. If your business launched in 1974, you were born in the borough or got married in May 1974, get in touch:
