Alliance event manages to beat weather

-

THE county golf Alliance meeting at Lutterworth GC went ahead despite the recent heavy rain, which had forced so many local courses to close and led to the cancellation of a number of earlier dates.

But the members – professionals and amateurs – were only able to compete over l5 holes.

Alliance secretary Simon Wood, head professional at Scraptoft GC, said: “I must give a massive thank you to Lutterworth for allowing us to play.

“I reckon it was a 50/50 decision to let us use the course, but it was fantastic weather and I think everyone enjoyed themselves after the opportunities to play have been so limited lately because of the wet.”

Joe Walley and Peter Tonque (both Kirby Muxloe) came first with their tally of 39 points on Alliance rule from Richard Lawton (Kibworth) and Bryn Morris (Market Harborough).

They finished one point ahead of third-placed Scott Palfrey and Lee Smith (Glen Gorse).

There was also a tie among the leading professionals.

It was between Jevann Parmar (The Leicestershire) and Matthew Cort (Beedles Lake), who both scored 32 points.

George Raitt (Whetstone) on 31 points finished third.

Parmar and his father Vinny (The Leicestershire) notched 37 points to take the amateur pro/am section prize, while the am/am award was won by Julian Harris and Adrian Pierson from Glen Gorse with their 38 points haul.

Scott Palfrey is top of the amateur order of merit for this season with his 62 points, and the professional leader is Craig Shave (Whetstone) with 132 points.

Today’s Alliance tournament at Kirby Muxloe GC has been cancelled because the course is waterlogged and is highly unlikely to be playable even if there is no more rain.
