Leicester is set to witness a significant advance in dementia care with the launch of award-winning day clubs by The Rainbow Care Group in May.

Delivering good quality dementia care across the UK, through their person-centred approach, the Rainbow Care Group promote independence, social interaction and activity, cognitive stimulation, and friendship in a safe environment with full care support for those who need it.

Each day the clubs runs from 10am until 4pm in various locations in the area, providing a full day of meaningful and purposeful activities, along with refreshments throughout the day and a nutritious lunch.

The activities are varied and include everything from trips out to entertainers, reminiscence, singing and dancing, arts and crafts, gardening, active games and much more.

The experienced activities manager adapts activities so that everyone can participate no matter what limitations they may have. With its person-centred care approach, they incorporate each individual person’s interests into the day, ensuring that everyone has a fun day engaging in activities that they really enjoy.

As well as a full care assessment The Rainbow Care Group also give each of their clients and their carers a comprehensive life story to fill out, covering early life right through to retirement, enabling the team to learn as much as they can about the individuality of each person.

Overall, their priority is to support individuals living with dementia, to participate in meaningful and purposeful activities and helping to maintain the best quality of life possible while continuing to live at home.

All clubs are staffed by fully qualified support workers who are passionate about making a difference. They are six times winners of the best dementia carers in the UK, most recently awarded in May 2023.

Spread across three convenient locations within the city, all with great facilities. St Andrews Church on Jarrom Street, Oadby Tennis Club on Leicester Road, and Glen Parva Memorial Hall on Dorothy Avenue, each providing an array of activities designed to promote cognitive stimulation and foster social interactions.

For those interested in experiencing the service first hand, The Rainbow Care Group offers a free taster day, allowing potential attendees and their families to gauge the quality and suitability of the day clubs. All the full-time carers they support state that they feel like they are accessing ‘guilt free’ respite.

The launch of these award-winning dementia day clubs in Leicester marks a beacon of hope and support for families affected by dementia, promising a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
