Teigan tells the world about
A BRITISH Airways cabin crew member has been telling the world about the vital work of Leicestershire and Rutland charity Hope Against Cancer.
Flight attendant Teigan Thompson, from Uppingham, is a regular on long haul flights and wanted to use the opportunity to help the charity spread its message.
So far, the charity’s flag has been seen in Sydney, on the sunny beaches of Sentosa Island, Singapore, in a rain-lashed San Francisco and in Johannesburg.
Hope Against Cancer has been sharing the pictures on social media.
Teigan was inspired by the exploits of two other Hope Against Cancer supporters, a father and daughter who have recently returned to the UK after a nine-month motorbike challenge that saw them travel from Alaska to Argentina.
Teigan said: “I saw on social media a while ago that some supporters of Hope Against Cancer were travelling in the US and sending in pictures of their travels in iconic places with a Hope flag on show.
“I know that Hope is a great local charity so I contacted them and I am now taking a Hope flag as far as South Africa and Australia to raise awareness of their work.”
Hope Against Cancer CEO Nigel Rose said: “It’s really great that while on her travels, Teigan has decided to spread the name of Hope across the globe.
“While we are a local charity, the
cancer research we support here is nationally and internationally renowned and this research benefits everyone at the end of the day.”
Formed in 2003, Hope Against Cancer has seed-funded more than 100 research projects tackling many different forms of cancer.
In addition, the charity has funded the construction of the Hope Cancer Trials Centre. Its work, in collaboration with Leicester University and
Leicester’s hospitals, has helped the city become a recognised hub of cancer research and treatment expertise.
